Legal
Last updated May 2026. This is a plain-language summary of the agreement between you (the "User") and the operator of _mycroft (the "Service"). It is not legal advice. A counsel-reviewed version should replace or extend this text before any large-scale commercial launch.
By creating an account, signing in, or using _mycroft you agree to these Terms, the Privacy notice, and the Disclaimer. We may update these Terms; material changes will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
You must be at least 16 years old (or older if your jurisdiction requires) and able to enter a binding contract. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials safe and for all activity on your account. Tell us promptly at support@mycroft.app if you suspect unauthorised access.
You agree not to:
We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these rules, with or without notice, to protect users, data providers, or the Service.
Pricing is shown on the Pricing page in South African Rand (ZAR) and may change with notice. Payments are processed by Yoco or an equivalent processor shown at checkout. By paying you authorise that processor to charge your selected method.
Where the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 applies, your statutory rights are unaffected. Beyond those rights, refunds are handled case-by-case: subscription payments are not pro-rated on cancellation, and consumed credits are not refundable. If a payment was charged in error, a webhook failed to credit your account, or the Service was materially unavailable, contact support@mycroft.app within 14 days and we will investigate.
The Service is provided on an "as available" basis. We aim for high uptime but do not currently offer a service-level agreement. The Service depends on third-party providers (hosting, payments, maps, weather, seismic feeds, geocoding, AI models, messaging) whose availability we do not control. Maintenance, outages, and changes to upstream feeds may interrupt or alter functionality.
You retain ownership of the content you submit (such as watchzone names, pin locations, support messages, and prompts). You grant _mycroft a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, process, transmit, and display that content solely as needed to operate, secure, and improve the Service, and to comply with law. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to submit anything you upload.
The _mycroft name, logo, software, and product design are owned by the operator and its licensors. Map, weather, seismic, and AI outputs delivered through the Service are subject to the upstream providers' own licences and attribution requirements (see Privacy for the subprocessor list). Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of those upstream rights.
See the full Disclaimer. In short: _mycroft is informational, not emergency services, not government or classified intelligence; feeds and AI text may be incomplete, delayed, or wrong; threat labels are heuristics, not professional assessments. Verify important facts independently.
To the maximum extent allowed by law, the Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, business, or goodwill. Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) ZAR 1,000. Nothing in these Terms excludes any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded under South African law (including under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008).
You agree to indemnify and hold _mycroft and its operators harmless from claims, damages, and reasonable costs arising from (a) your use of the Service in breach of these Terms, (b) content you submit, or (c) your violation of any law or third-party right.
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms, if required by law or a provider, or if continued operation becomes commercially impractical. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (payment obligations, IP, disclaimers, liability limits, indemnity, governing law) will survive.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. The parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the South African courts. Before starting formal proceedings, please contact us at support@mycroft.app so we can try to resolve the issue directly.
